Relax and read in your hot tub
Reading is such a healthy hobby. And at Hydropool Wiltshire, we think that the time spent in your hot tub can also be the perfect time to get stuck into that latest page-turner you’ve been desperate to start.
If you love your technology and have the latest, must-have e-reader out there, you can purchase a super sleek and handy waterproof cover if you’re concerned about any water splashing on to it in your tub. Or maybe (like many of the Hydropool Wiltshire team) you love a good old-fashioned paperback to really lose yourself in another world? Of course, modern technology is fantastic, but you really can’t match the fabulous feel of a good book, the scent of the pages and the ultimate escape from the digital landscape we live in, can you? We are constantly surrounded by phones, laptops, TVs and the digital world wherever we look. And sometimes it does us the world of good to just switch off. It means you can just simply soak up the bubbles and fall in love with reading in your hot tub.
At Hydropool Wiltshire we’ve done a little research into reading for the blog post this week, so we can let you know exactly why it is just so good for you, as well as being that perfect little escape to another realm!
Reading improves your focus and concentration. In our digitally-crazed world, a 5-minute span can include checking email, checking social media, texting, chatting to co-workers and doing the actual work you need to do. However, when you read, the rest of the world around you falls away as you are absorbed in the story. Try reading for 15-20 minutes during your soak, or even before work in the morning, and you’ll be surprised how much easier you find concentrating on the task at hand in the office!
Secondly, whilst using your brain after a busy day at work may not seem like the top thing you want to do in the evening, your brain is like any other muscle in the body. It needs to be exercised to stay fit and healthy. So, the more you use it, the more you can help ward off Alzheimer’s and Dementia. But not only that, reading actually improves your memory too. As there is so much to remember when reading fiction, for instance (characters, plots, sub-plots, places, back-stories), your brain does a great job at picking it all up right where you left off. And for every memory you create like this, your brain creates a new synapse, and strengthens existing ones. This means better short-term memory overall and a healthier, more active brain.
But, one of the best reasons our Hydropool Wiltshire team love reading has got to be the tranquility it brings. In addition to the relaxation that accompanies reading a good book, it’s possible that the subject you read about can bring about immense inner peace and tranquility. Reading spiritual texts can lower blood pressure and bring about a sense of calm, while reading self-help books has been shown to help people suffering from certain mood disorders and mild mental illnesses.
So, whatever benefits you feel most important to you, be sure to find time to pick up that favourite novel, expand your knowledge with an insightful non-fiction or explore a whole new area of literature you’ve yet to discover… all from the comfort of your Hydropool hot tub!
